I am Lhen Parra, coined as my Tatay’s pet. Maybe because I am the youngest among the ten siblings and a daughter is very dear to a father. “Latak” as joked by some friends but defended by my parents as their hope to be rich someday. I grew up with the care of my elder sisters because my parents worked half their lives to raise us all.

My first “barkadas” are my two brothers who taught me games that children miss nowadays. We used to watch TV outside our rich neighbour’s window. We were usually shooed away. My father was a carpenter and fisherman. While my mother washed and iron clothes for the landlords to help my father on our needs. At a young age I promised to myself that my parents will no longer work for others. They will never be poor anymore. We will never eat coconut jam or “tira-tira” as viand, nor have “lugaw” for our meals. We will no longer watch TV outside the landlord’s window. We will have our own fully furnished house someday. I worked in a factory when I was 17. I was promoted as a Line Lead, and most were older than me. I was earning but not enough. I nearly gave up on my dreams. Until a cousin whom I served as a pharmacy assistant brought the good news that I can study college via Philippine Veterans scholarship because my father was a war veteran. I have to maintain good grades. I never had summer vacations to qualify the grant. Three and a half years after, I finished Accounting from University of the East-Manila. My parents were the happiest people I saw in my whole life.

Before I joined the Graduation march in April 1992, I was already employed as Bookkeeper, then as an Editorial Assistant, Accountant, Payroll Assistant, Software Engineering Analyst, Dietary Head… name it! I was also an OFW in Taiwan and Dubai. I was in a rush then. I thought I will be rich. I was in a rat race. The stress I had for years made me sick. I had Ovarian cysts and was advised for operation. The “miracle” Intra introduced by my officemate helped me avoid the operation. Look how Lord had His plan. I was reunited with our former Accounts clerk in a recruitment office in Malate where I was a Project Manager for overseas employment more than 20 years ago. She’s now my very generous and diligent mentor and now one of Lifestyles’ Global Marketing Directors, GMD Analyn Lapitan Borneo.

How did I know GMD Lenlen Borneo? In 2004, I applied for an overseas work but was offered to manage the agency in Manila. I worked with this bubbly young lady, we called Lenlen whom I envisioned will be rich someday because of her positive attitude. And she’ll go places. UntiI I saw her on social media reaping her fruits of success. How? My intuition was true. And now she is my core mentor. Lifestyles made a twist and turn of my life. I was never used to start a conversation, especially to strangers. But now, I cannot stay a moment without talking to know everyone. I embraced Lifestyles’ mission. I saw the big difference of my previous work and the very positive environment our company has. I am happy to serve. I have more quality time with my family and friends. Now I know and experience health, time, and financial freedom.

I have a big dream of celebrating success with the whole family. I want to bring them a quality life that we missed during our younger days. I wanted to give my parents and my siblings the best. God listened and answered my prayers. I have not just one but two families that are giving me the ultimate joy- Parra and Lifestyle families. I will forever thank Him for He continues to bless me with the strength to deliver. Forever gratitude to all the people who inspire and bring out the best in me.
